WHEN JESUS SETTLES DOWN
DOC LYNCH
Eph. 3:17 (AMP) – "May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts!"
See where it says ACTUALLY? PERMANENT? HOME?
It's wonderful and supernatural and exciting.
Jesus wants to come and make His permanent home in our hearts.
Wow.
If that is the case, that the very God and Creator of the Universe (John 1:1), would ACTUALLY want to do that, then it seems to me the world should be a much better place with that much of Jesus here on earth.
It also strikes me as odd, that in spite of a whole lot of lip service from people professing to know and love Jesus, that either Jesus is a liar, or people are.
Well…I'm not ready to level charges of lying against anyone.
What is happening more than likely, is that the first part of the verse today has been ignored or at least not able to be lived up to and practiced.
It is certainly not a question of Christ's willingness.
It's a question of people's FAITH.
Jesus settles down in the heart of a person when that person ACTUALLY believes it.
The concept is not complicated. The actual following through by both parties is not complicated.
The complication arises when the heart is divided between Jesus and something ELSE.
You may really love and appreciate Jesus today. In a religious sort of way.
Religion isn't good enough. Religion is a false god unto itself and is hogging up the space in your soul and spirit.
There is also your spiritual "alter ego". You are dividing time between your old life and Jesus.
Then there could also be the fact that perhaps you once knew Jesus in a very pure and loving way, but you allowed "STUFF" to gain the ascendancy over you. Addictions, love of the world, bitterness, strife, hatred…the list is long.
In essence? You simply crowded Him out of your heart. Your faith either waned or it was never really there strongly enough.
This is why when people marvel at my strong relationship with Jesus, my strong and lengthy sobriety, my long and strong marriage to the same woman, I marvel back with surprise. When asked how me and my wife have done it I simply say in all uncomplicated simplicity…"I just believed it."
It's easy to believe the Word because the Word is Jesus (John 1:1), and he is incapable of promising something that will not occur.
So, when it's not happening for you, who will you blame? Jesus?
Well, you can blame Him if you wish. You can blame Him for everything wrong with you, your life, the world, and even the Universe. You can blame Him, BUT it doesn't make it so.
When it comes down down to blame and ownership of your lousy life, it is YOU who is to blame. YOU and YOU alone. YOU own it. YOU maneuver it, YOU feed it. Jesus is nowhere to be found in part or parcel of that shipwreck. He will not fight you over YOUR own life. He has already fought for YOU on the Cross. He expects you to believe that by faith and then, and then only, does He move in lock, stock, and barrel.

This gets fixed when you put your life in order with Jesus and you allow Him His rightful spot in your heart, WHICH incidentally He has EARNED by the spilling of His Blood. Together we can get there. Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Come get some. Begin to actually LIVE for the first time in your life.
