SO YOU THINK YOU'RE POWERLESS? (How To Overcome The Dark Forces Of Evil In Your Life)

This is for everyone who cares to read this today. For believers in Jesus it is a reminder and an encouragement. For non-believers, skeptics, anti-believers etc., well, hopefully it's a wakeup call, because you really are POWERLESS.

Take a look at the Scripture God has led me to today. Keep in mind that while this particular scenario actually took place about 2,000 years ago, it is still fully applicable for today, and has been all of these many by gone years. Sadly, the Church has not always availed itself of it's power.

Acts 13:8-11 – "But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time. Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand."

THAT is POWER, and it is only available in that fashion to the believer in Jesus Christ. Note the qualifier: "Paul, FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT". The believer has no power outside of the POWER SOURCE, which is the presence of the Holy Spirit. You only get this through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is not to say there is not other powers. There are evil powers, which is who and what Paul is fighting here. Who is the person Paul is against? Elymas the Sorcerer/Magician. Sometimes there is some powerful mojo being sent from the Dark Regions to confound and even defeat the powers of God. Often time those powers are represented in magic arts. Curses are pronounced upon people through witchcraft, sorcery, mediums, fortune tellers, readings, etc. I will explore this further in a moment and tell you exactly what to stay away from and how to counteract any evil that might have been pronounced over you.

While the Word is clear that Paul is facing off against Elymas, it's more than that. Don't forget it's Paul who wrote Ephesians 6 and the admonition that “we do not fight against flesh and blood in actuality, but powers and principalities in higher places.” Paul was developing theology and a "how to guide" as he went along. As a highly trained professional in the strategies of spiritual warfare, I for one can say, "Thank God for Paul!" We have benefited from his personal battles with Satan.

In the interest of time, let's cut to the chase. I am of course always available for personal questions concerning this subject.

If you are a non-believer, or perhaps even a brand new believer, and you are locked in a struggle with issues that are affecting your personal health, physical and mental, or relationships including marriage, parenting, etc., then you may have subtly been exposed to a "curse" of some sort because of something you have been exposed to.

The first thing I ask new believers to do is look around their house for items that might be a portal or an invitation for demons and evil to enter in. Look for books on the occult, tarot cards, ouija boards, trinkets, demonic artwork, crystals used by new age proponents, anything to do with evil magic arts, statues of contrary alternative gods like Buddha and Hindu deities, eastern philosophical religious writings, books on "ghosts", occult, stuff by Aleister Crowley, etc. These may be in your home somewhere and even forgotten about. Hunt them down, take them somewhere and burn them. Don't leave them where someone else can get to them, like a trash can. Burn them. My missionary friends in Africa tell me that when they first deal with a village in trying to teach Jesus, they first must win or vanquish the witchdoctor. When they do they take his fetish bag of magic arts and burn them in the center of the village to show that evil has been destroyed. What this also does is put evil powers on notice that Jesus is now the new Sheriff in town.

I can pretty much guarantee that most people have SOMETHING. Even when they find it they may have trouble getting rid of it because it has some sort of a sentimental attachment. It could be something that has been in the family for years. If you want to be free and your home safe and at peace, you must get rid of it. I can't tell you how many times I have dealt with stubborn people who have tried to hide something from me, but I could "sense" there was still something in the home prevailing against them.

Once you do this, and you realize the spiritual power you have against evil, you will NEVER be subjected to demonic forces gaining an upper hand over you again. EVER!

See what Paul said? He accused the sorcerer of making crooked the "straight paths of the Lord". That's what demons and their dupes try to do. They continually attempt to counteract the work of Jesus by making cheap imitations which are essentially a "crooked path" alternative. Any alternative to Jesus is a crooked path. I used to drive past a house here in New Milford every day, right on the major thoroughfare of Route 7 where thousands of people drive every day. There was a sign outside that said "Psychic". It’s gone now. Closed down by intensive prayer and the direction of Jesus toward the evil forces! It was a diversion, a crooked path, and I wonder how many people stopped each day to get a reading or attend a seance. These seem harmless to some people, but it is a deep danger that may open the gates of hell to a person and their entire family.

Jesus is stronger. You are stronger in Jesus.

Paul predicted the Sorcerer would be struck blind by God and he was. It says, "mist and darkness" fell upon him and he had to try to find people to lead him by the hand. There is always a price to pay for dabbling in evil. Today, society has become more politically correct and has lost touch with the power and influence of evil demonic forces. Today addiction is a powerful weapon of those practicing magic arts. Let's not forget that our word "pharmacy" is sorcery and magic in the bible. Let's not forget the reason why alcohol is called "spirits".

There is power in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and evil is petrified of even His name. It is petrified of you too when you attach yourself to Jesus and have Him a part of your life.
