Jesus spoke to the two men on the road to Emmaus shortly after He resurrected. They were discussing the events of that day as Jesus came upon them unrecognized.
Luke 24:17 – “And he said to them, ‘What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.'”
They were looking sad.
Verse 21 says: “We had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel.”
Indicative of a state of unbelief. Dejected. Depressed.
The air had just gone out of their faith system.
Jesus came along just in time.
Until then they had been aimlessly walking and engaging in negative banter.
In verse 25 Jesus said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”
Then He proceeded to “open up” the Scriptures to them and reveal to them that He had indeed fulfilled the prophecies (“Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” ).
Have you been experiencing all that you should be in your relationship with Jesus Christ today?
Are you “feelin’ it”?
Or has the economy gotten you down? Perhaps a relationship is tension filled. Maybe your job is not going well? Maybe you don’t even have one at the moment?
These and scores of other situations can put you on the Emmaus Road of dejection and lost hope.
We need to have our hearts “burn” once again!
Only Jesus gets us back.
Slow down the pace. Stop walking. Pause to have a conversation with Jesus.
In other words, let Him open up the Word to you. Let Him calm your anxious spirit. Let Him soothe and minister to you.
Simply take a moment to speak freely and honestly with Jesus and get things back in perspective.
Remember…He hasn’t gone anywhere. It is us who allow our problems and difficulties to build up a shield against grace.
Before you know it you will be exclaiming with joy again as the disciples did, “The Lord has risen indeed!”
Keepin’ it Real,
