I struggled where to put this message. I decided upon “Counseling” because I have long been a enemy of the practice of Yoga for any purpose and in any form. I believe it is one of the major provocateurs and purveyors of personal evil in humanity. I believe it is one of the main reasons that believers suffer difficulty and problems in their lives. In a nutshell, Christians should never, and I mean never, practice the ancient rituals associated with what many believe to be the harmless practice of just stretching and exercise as long as it is attached to Yoga. There is no safe way to engage in Yoga. Not through the YMCA, not through a gym class, not through the private practice of the “exercises” in the privacy of your own home.
Here’s the thing. There is simply no safe way to do Yoga. That’s because it’s not about the philosophy of it. You can be completely innocent and ignorant of the facts concerning the ancient religious philosophy of it. It’s not about that. You don’t have to chant. You don’t have to know the names of the various positions (cleaned up it’s now called “exercise”). You don’t have to know, and the devil likes it that way.
You don’t have to know. The demons do. All you have to do is unwittingly submit. And millions of Christians do, and have been affected negatively in many ways by it. I am also sorry to say that most of them, in America anyway, are women. That’s because they have been convinced (again, by other unwitting women) that Yoga burns calories and stress and “clears your mind” of anxiety.
Little do they know they are unleashing a demon horde within their body and spirit.
Let’s look at the simplest aspect associated with this.
Yoga is inexorably associated and attached to Transcendentalism. Remember the TM/Transcendental Meditation craze of the late 60’s and early 70’s? I do. I was a part of it. I practiced it. To “transcend” was to become “empty” in one’s mind, and thereby achieving the spiritual goal of Nirvana or Moksha (not the rock band). The Yogi Masters wanted us to believe that to be empty is good. After I became a believer in Christ I found out being empty is NOT good.
Jesus affirms this:
Matthew 12:43-45 (AMP) – “43 But when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, it roams through dry [arid] places in search of rest, but it does not find any. 44 Then it says, I will go back to my house from which I came out. And when it arrives, it finds the place unoccupied, swept, put in order, and decorated. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and make their home there. And the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first. So also shall it be with this wicked generation.” This scripture is perfect in exemplifying what happens when one practices Yoga.
Spiritual emptiness is dangerous. It is also impossible. Your emptiness will never last long. It will be filled either by Jesus and the Holy Spirit, or it will be filled with demons. Period. No other choices. While there are many ways to be filled with demons, Yoga ranks right up there with the top methods of Satan’s weapons.
There are many “types” of Yoga (just like there are many types of demons. I am going to highlight two. Bikram and Kundalini.
Understand that in the Hindu language of sanskrit, Yoga actually means “uniting” or “yoking” (remember Jesus says we should only be yoked to Him). It is meant to unite one with the universe and destroy the “illusion” of this life.
In the interest of time and space, let me emphasize the basic concept of the Kundalini, which is a part of all Yoga experience at its base and most evil foundation. Let me also stress here, that you CANNOT practice Yoga in any of its forms and philosophy without unleashing this evil which begins to inhabit you the moment you sign on to be a part of it.
Kundalini means “coiled one”. That alone should make you run. It is a form of spiritual energy or “shakti”. It is a coiled serpent waiting to be “awakened” or unleashed within you to be united in a form of “marriage” with another spirit at the top of your head. It is designed in hell to be a “whole body” experience. Many practitioners claim to experience a feeling of electric current running up and down their spine. Remember, it doesn’t require cognizance of the philosophy to achieve this. All you have to is innocently practice what you have been told is harmless stretching and exercise. The demons will take care of the rest. There are “exercises” of breathing, meditation, and even chanting. If your teacher mumbles and breathes funny, it’s a tipoff they are looking at more than simple exercise. Beware! Stop doing Yoga or don’t sign up. It’s all about the motions.
Christian, you are tinkering in areas you cannot imagine. Maybe a Christian friend has told you about it. Maybe even your pastor is benign about it and doesn’t see the harm. Many pastors are uninformed or misinformed. This is a real threat, and I don’t care how much weight you are losing or how “calm” and stress free you feel. Jesus says there is one stress reliever, and it’s Him! “Cast all your anxiety upon Me, because I care for you!”
The last one I wanted to mention is very dangerous. Bikram Yoga, better known as “Hot Yoga”. It’s the same Yoga but in and extremely heated room (over 100 degrees). This is dangerous because it places the person in a highly suggestive state of exhaustion. Lot’s of negative health issues has happened, even death. I believe it is the devils way of trying to completely wreck your live on may levels. I have personally seen it happen.
Believe me or ignore me. Ultimately it is up to you as is with all spiritual issues. I have no dog in this race other than I have been a pastor half my life now and I care about what happens to you.
Choose life! Choose Jesus!
