It was a bright and glorious day when Jesus taught me to pray according to His will and His Word.
Until then I had acquired a lot of religious bad habits. It was fashionable for instance, to end every prayer with “if it’s Your will.” If? What a faith killing word if ever there was one!
There is no “IF” about it. Now, to pray “let it be according to Your will”, that’s entirely different.
“According to Your will” indicates that we have discovered what His will is. And that is normal Christian methodology, because it is what is biblical and what God teaches.
Look at this verse and see if there is anything to argue against:
1 John 5:15 (AMP) – “And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.”
Wow! I still get excited over that passage.
Now…do YOU believe it? Really, really, believe it?
When you pray do you pray knowing that what you have just prayed has already been made a present possession?
I can sense the shifting in the chairs from here.
That little “cheek to cheek” dance you may be doing right now is the result of being dragged out of your comfort zone.
You may be one of those today upon reading this, who feels like cold water was just thrown in your face.
That’s good! It aids in the wake up call! It’s a cold cup of reality (Truth).
This is NORMAL Christian activity! It is NORMAL to pray like that because it’s God’s way!
Pray as if you have already received! It changes the landscape doesn’t it? It moves us beyond the mundane and stale religious ritual.
Far too many believers feel they need to beg God for what He already knows are your needs and has already endeavored to give you. People don’t know that because they don’t get deep enough into His Word to discover verses like this mornings. Matthew chapter six is a complete revelation for the believer!
When you pray God answers by granting our requests as “present possessions”. In other words, pray as if you have already received it, which makes our prayer times more of a thanksgiving to a gracious and benevolent God, than that of a disheveled Oliver Twist standing before the workhouse master begging for rancid porridge saying, “Please sir, may I have some more?”
So? Do you believe it or not? If you do then it will change your life. If you do not then it will always be no more than a maybe as to if and when your prayers will be answered.
